Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Sweet place... Amazingly easy. & plentiful & free parking ! Carly, the hostess/ waitress was charming with bubbles. Had ltd hunger so did the kale & spinach salad w the Summerland Chardonnay. Both were great as was the open air ambience including views of the bikini clad bathers. & an upfront discount too!

Beautiful space, excellent service. Shared the polenta and frito misto appetizers with my husband. Both were delicious. The polenta was very satisfying and perfect to share--the dish is a little rich. However, this is not a complaint...just fits into the "less is more" category. The frito misto was perfectly prepared--light and crispy, not heavy and greasy. The accompanying sauce was nice too. Entrees: I had the pesto pasta dish--very tasty, just slightly under seasoned. This was quickly remedied with a little salt. My husband had the bolognese pasta. It was very good too. This dinner did take place about a month ago, so some of the details escape me. Such as the wine, but I recall it was the house pinot noir. I enjoyed it very much.

My server was efficient, if not overly personable, & I found the food really quite good for a hotel place. The decor is very clean & lovely, though the pool fumes & the huge open doors do not mix well, infusing the entire dining area with a fog of chlorine. The chairs were a bit odd, too ~ not horribly uncomfortable, just not conducive to leisurely loitering. I expect we'll be returning just the same ~ there aren't many choices in the area with such extensive hours or ample parking.

Simply delicious! Fresh, light yet fulfilling. I love the concept of openness in this place. It's great for a (house-made) cocktail (I like the Pimm's Cup) by the pool or a nice quaint lunch meeting. I'm looking forward to coming back in the summer and chilling in the cabanas...fun times ahead! The hotel is also unrecognizable...I may just make it an all-nighter! Recommendations: bruschettas-tuna, artichokes and oven dried tomatoes are my faves; garginella primivera; roasted half chicken and the fritto misto is a must! Oh wait, dessert...can't forget about that...Italian lemon pound cake is mmm mmm mmm magnifica! Can you tell I've been here a few times already? ;-) Well I had to help out my fellow yelpers! Indulge and enjoy!

This place was amazing! The atmosphere was beautiful. Glass fire pits, pool view, outside seating with the perfect setting lights. The food was to die for, as well as great service. Our waiter was Jefferson and he was really friendly and on top of everything. We will definitely be going back again!
(5)B R.
Very good food. Reasonable atmosphere, nice outdoor seating. They lose one star for two things: 1. Sports on TVs. Really brings a restaurant down from "high class". 2. Order coffee and you'll get... STARBUCKS coffee in a starbucks paper cup. For real. They go and get Starbucks. (No, they don't go far; the hotel serves it.) I want good coffee in a coffee cup, not drive-thru brew. Also worth noting: Many people are boycotting Starbucks right now. Starbucks is teaming up with Monsanto (!) to sue the entire state of Vermont for daring to label GMO foods. Most undemocratic and scary. Starbucks? Christ, guys.

When you go inside of this hotel, you will be surprised how casual, modern it is inside! You cannot imagine how cool inside from outside of the building or the 'Doubletree' traditional image. My husband and I came here on Saturday for a dinner and here are my reviews. Ambiance: 5/5 rating: Open concept, Indoor/outdoor/bar seating, specious, sports TVs, casual, and workstation with outlet for laptop. Even if you are alone on a business trip, you totally fit in here. Food: 3/5 rating: We ordered small plate Organic garden greens $8 (Great taste with right amount of dressing and pepper, small plate Roasted polenta cake $10 (very good), Fennel sausage, artisanal pepperoni $15 (Is this really a house made? Hmm naaaaa.) $12 beer for a regular glass (Wow. Is this price right?), a half glass of wine $17 (continue to my service rating.) Service: 1/5 rating: If we had to get up and ask for a serving plate, I consider it was poor service. Our server was not friendly or attentive. There were only 5 tables of guests, but no servers seemed to care how we were doing. After the dinner when we saw the bill, it was way over priced than we thought it would be. I asked the server if this wine price correct becase on the menu it said $10 and got charged for $17. The server replied 'on the menu, it says 10/17. $10 for 1/4 glass, $17 for a half glass. And it was for a half of glass.' Aren't you supposed to let me choose what I want to order? A question like....what kind of bread, decaf or regular coffee, oj small or large size, 12 or 16oz beer.... you hear that all the time. I paid for what I have consumed without knowing, but at the end, I was not happy with this principle and even my husband of great tipper (usually 20+% tip) was not enthusiastic about the tip %.

Granted I came here for a test run before the restaurant opened, but wanted to post anyway, mostly for the photos of the great ambiance. The restaurant is sort of 'italian with a napa twist' so it has some hints of California, tuscan wine, rosemary on the table, etc. Mainly, it's the setting that I loved--the restaurant has tables both inside and out (with heatlamps!) and is very comfortable and pleasant. It's currently a little tricky to get to, as it's inside the Hotel MdR, but worth the trouble. Our group really enjoyed the cocktails and bruschetta boards before moving on to some 'big plates' which were all good. The vegetarian of the group was accommodated nicely. The wine selection was nice and we enjoyed a bottle of Barolo. Desserts were creatively presented and really good--I think the lemon cake with sorbet was the favorite.
(5)Terri M.
The food is incredible! We devoured the bruschetta, pizza, shrimp pasta, and salmon! All of them were absolutely mouth watering. The ambiance is superb as well as our waiter, Ky, was attentive, informative, and congenial! We will definitely return!
(5)rachel e.
Food was subpar... Service was non-existent. Nobody was in the restaurant. Bruschetta was over toasted, caesar salad was salty. We asked for iced water, the waiter took 15 minutes to bring that. Overall the experience was a trashy hotel restaurant. If you are local I would not recommend this restaurant.
(1)Tatiana T.
Barbianca is one of the best hotel-located restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dinning at. Which is saying a lot, since I practically live in hotels. The food is delicious but more importantly, it's not at all overpriced in the way that hotel restaurants always feel like they're entitled to be. Service is always excellent and attentive and I always feel well taken care of by the staff. I love their wide selection of bruschetta and my favorites are the veal meatballs, oil-poached tuna salad, and the vine-ripened tomatoes with pine nuts is a serious treat - the tomatoes are so juicy and flavorful. I've also tried the famous polenta cake which I found tasty but the flavor was a little overwhelming and I got tired of it halfway through. I recommend sharing this dish. Shrimp Garganelli is creamy yet light with tons of fresh shrimp. I also regularly order the fritto misto which is sometimes over-battered (cornmeal batter is a bit odd too) but the seafood is a generous portion and always sweet and fresh. Only dish worth complaining about is that I once ordered a Ceaser salad that came absolutely drenched in dressing. I love ceaser dressing like no other, so when I say it was too much, it was WAY too much. This restaurant is quite a treat and a fine example of fresh California fare.

Located in the Hotel MDR, this little gem satisfied my every needs. The bruschetta sampler was five incredible bites, good to share. The waiter recommended the salmon, and I'm glad he did. It was a dreamy dish and I will be back again for more! I'm surprised with such great food it wasn't packed, we were lucky! Also, great service! Our waiter was super friendly.
(5)Lorri E.
Nice little gem of a restaurant in MDR. I had to work in MDR for a couple days this week and enjoyed the kale salad so much the first time I had it, that I went back a few days later and ate it again! Nice ambiance and looked like they have good drinks as well.
(5)Rick W.
When I walked in I wondered why nobody was there, but stayed hopeful. Took my wife here for date night and was thoroughly disappointed by the food. To top it off our waiter was barely there. Clearly a restaurant for the hotel guests of MDR who are too lazy to walk across the street for better grub. My recommendation: don't trust the 4 1/2 star rating... They probably paid for it.
(1)Michael C.
Great Italian food. The "fried-everything" appetizer (can't recall the name) was ordered on impulse after seeing one head to another table. This was after the truffle-oil polenta, which was also fantastic. My wife had the shrimp garganelli and I had the short-rib bolognese for the main course. I'd go again, order the same thing 10 times if given no other choice, and enjoy every bite.

After our Mother's Day Brunch reservation got messed up by another restaurant in the Marina, we were scrambling to find a nice spot with reasonable prices. We found Barbianca 3 days before Mother's Day and made reservations. When we got there we were greeted by the hostess and were told that our table would not be ready until 10:35 (our reservation was at 10:30). About 5 minutes later, the manager came up to us and said that it would be a little longer than expected and offered us complimentary mimosas. Not everyone in our party drank so he also gave us coffee and OJ. I was impressed by this. This is how a customer service should be and was when I was a waitress. Unfortunately, you don't see great customer service anymore. We were sat outside. Due to someone in our party getting cold very easily, they immediately offered to turn on the heat lamps when we expressed our concern. It actually got very warm with the heat lamps. It was beautiful sitting outside and our mother's loved it. We had to switch the chairs because an elder in our party had a difficult time sitting in the outside chairs. Luis, the busboy, got us a chair from inside and helped the member in the party into his chair. Our waitress, I believe her name was Vicky (I could be wrong), was amazing! She brought out a tub of water for our mother's to put their flowers in (the flowers were a gift from people in the party). I have never had a waitress to this sweet gesture. Now, the FOOD, it was really good. I had the breakfast panini and realized half way through that the prosciutto was missing. I didn't say anything because I was pretty much done with my meal. I know if I would have said something they would have brought some in a heartbeat. Everyone loved their meals and the bloody marys were really good. I would come here again especially based on the AMAZING customer service.
(4)David K.
This was nice. The food was good. The service was good. I didn't get what I ordered but what showed up looked so good I didn't complain (they both had the same word in the dish and I might not have been clear when I ordered). When we told our server that we were local and not staying at the the hotel, they were very happy and gave us a 10% card. We are looking forward to going back. It was nice eating out by the pool with some heat lamps. Lots of TVs, lots of seating at tables and the bar. The biggest problem was finding it and parking. The entrance where we went in was not free parking. We had to park in the nearby parking lot and walk over. There were no signs for the restaurant anywhere that I saw.
(4)Rhonda B.
Hands down, FUN FUN FUN! Went to brunch on Mother's Day and wanted something early so we didn't have to deal with all the dysfunctional families. Checked out the menu ahead of time and knew about the ping pong room prior so we asked for that right off. Had a coupon for bottomless mimosas and we were in like flint! The menu is hard to choose from, so many good things. Our server Vicky didn't disappoint and was definitely a breath of fresh air. Most definitely will go back, will try Happy Hour next.
(5)Michelle F.
Came here for dinner and drinks. Menu was slightly weak and food was ok. Service was poor. It's a hotel restaurant, which I typically don't like. The vibe and ambiance were decent...it opens out so you can sit outside which is nice. We had flatbread (which was surprisingly decent), meatballs (nothing exciting), and the pork chop (definitely had better).
(2)Mary C.
Very nice place. We had the salmon with asparagus and four tiny tiny potatoes. It was perfect. It was prepared with an almond and raisin glaze. Very tasty. My son had the artichoke raviolis and he loved it! As well as the strawberry shortcake for dessert. It is a bit pricey, but with little kids and the inability to walk around looking for another place to eat, we decided to make it simple and stay within the hotel. Sitting outside was the best! Lit candles and fire pits surrounding the dining area which opens up towards the pool area. It's not completely combined but you can see the pool. A great place to hang out! The service was perfect as well! I did order a cocktail earlier while at the pool, steep price for a lemonade which seemed to have no alcohol in it. So at dinner having wine or beer was a better option. Note to self: check in on yelp prior to paying the bill! I missed the 20% off dinner offer!! Could've used it on the $120 bill!

I was here for a company team dinner a few weeks ago. Party of 16. I was a bit nervous at first because in trying to make the reservation, no one picked up. So I called again and the call went to reservations. Was transferred then hung up on. I finally got through and the reservation person or manager was not there so I ended up speaking to the kitchen manager. I was a bit iffy and nervous. I also almost cancelled but glad I didn't. the team went over, parking was free and easy. Bar was nice, food and service was great! A few folks had steak, pizza margherita was awesome! and fish was also good. I would definitely go back again and recommend to the rest of the team in the office. I would suggest the restaurant fix the phone situation and routing of calls or have the option to leave a recorded message and a return call back.
(5)Julia S.
This place is really good!! The Cali mule is a must and the service is amazing. Make sure to order the tomato and goat bruschetta! We are definitely coming back!
(4)Steve A.
This is a hit or miss type of restaurant. Sometimes good other times not so much. Limited menu. Service was fine. Server had to apologize for items that were on the menu but not available for the night. Nice atmosphere. Will give this one another chance at another time.
(3)Ara K.
Attentive service, nice decor, but limited menu.
(3)Vipula G.
The food was good, the staff was pleasant and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice ( in spite of being inside a hotel) - the restaurant overlooks a nicely landscaped pool area. I especially recommend the artichoke ravioli and the polenta cake. The panini was so-so but the fries that came with it were really good. The main problem of the hotel is the location - we couldnt find it thru google maps and we had to call and ask. And the bartender told us that happens a lot!!
(3)Molly G.
A fabulous time. Great food -we all got pizza and a few of the pasta dishes. The linguini bacon carbonara is SO good. The atmosphere is very classy and the wait staff is excellent! Highly recommend this place.
(5)Jynnette L.
Came here for a friend's going away dinner. Love the ambience and actually found parking in the DSW lot in front of the hotel. Parking is validated for those who use hotel parking as well. The waiter was nice although he only gave average service. He brought the wrong drink for one girl's order and had to comp the drink. Food was also average in flavor although the presentation was nice. A consistent theme was dry texture and small portion sizes. Even the dessert was dry (toasted almond butter cake) which also was comped because the dessert we did want (the shortcake) was out. The waiter was gone a looonnnngggg time as well, to the point where we wondered if he had gone home. Basically, nothing too special here but this would probably be a place best for happy hour than a full service restaurant experience. Can't beat the 20% off deal though for checking in! That will definitely warrant a re-visit.
(3)Donna C.
Hidden GEM! I was skeptical about driving out to Marina del Rey, but the food here exceeded my expectations. I will always remember for the ground polenta cake topped with mushrooms and truffle sauce. Best dish EVER! I wish this was closer to West Hollywood because the restaurants over there are not this good.
(5)Rey L.
nice on-site restaurant for Hotel MDR. their kids breakfast menu is not too shabby with mouse-ear pancakes and bacon for around $5. the lay out is pretty open and looks out onto the pristine pool area. they have outdoor chairs/tables as well as a ping pong table available. they serve Starbucks coffee at the fully stocked bar. they have a nice house Cab too that we had with the huge chocolate cake my daughter wanted for the sake of being on a staycation. :)
(4)Larry F.
I was looking on Open Table for a place to have dinner that night. I saw a new listing. It was so new there were no reviews. I booked a table and went in. The hostess told me that I was the first person to book on their Open Table computer. We ordered 5 Bruschetta and we were delighted with all of them. We then got Polenta with Mushrooms and Calamari. Our server was excellent. A chef came over & I asked what is in the meatball. He said pork, beef & veal. I tasted more so asked if they also use Prosciutto. He said they do but its a secret ingredient. The manager is really great at his job. We have since brought many friends there too and it is always an excellent choice. We will be introducing another couple to them tomorrow night. It's in the Doubletree Hotel.
(5)Gunnar C.
This would be 5 stars because the food is great, but when we sat down to dinner on New Year's Eve, they informed us none of their pastas or entrees would be available that night because they were planning on being so busy. Poor show
(3)Sumeet S.
Food ok. Music and ambiance was great. Service was well intentioned but dismally slow and disorganized.
(2)Jason Z.
This review is from my dinner. First impression upon entry was not a good one. The lighting is awful (very bright like a cafeteria) and kills any ambience that could exist in an otherwise nice space. We ate outside which was nice but there were a bunch of kids swimming in the pool about 20 feet away. No big deal but not what we were expecting for a date night dinner. The waitress was super sweet but completely in over her head. She did not seem appropriately trained and, overall, the service was annoyingly slow and unattentive. The theme for the night was "average". Nothing was bad but nothing was notable which was surprising considering the reviews. We had the meatball and artichoke bruschetta which was somewhat bland. I had the salmon which came highly recommended by the waitress. It was a little dry and the asparagus was over-cooked. My wife had the shirt rib bolognese. The pasta tasted good but the sauce was bland. We had to add salt to kick it up. For some who can find bolognese sauces rich this might be a good thing but you can have flavor w/o being too rich. This place may be better for inch or breakfast and I might give it a shot but it does not deserve 4.5 stars for dinner.
(3)Bonnie C.
We were at the MDR Doubletree for 2 nights and decided to give the Barbianca Restaurant in the hotel a try. We were surprised with an excellent meal and a creative menu. No need to look for another restaurant the following evening, as there were other things on the menu we wanted to try. The bruschetta trio starter was delicious, the slightly spicey roasted cauliflower a favorite. Dinner #1 my husband had a Caesar salad and small plate veal meatballs; I had the grilled salmon and we shared the Josh Cellars Cab....all perfect. Dinner #2 we started with the trio bruschetta and my husband had the pork chop and I had the beef rib bolognese...another bottle of the Josh, another great meal. Staff friendly and efficient...why leave the hotel! Also, had breakfast there 2 mornings. Too bad we live in Pennsylvania or Barbianca would be a regular vist.
(5)Carolyn R.
I absolutely love barbianca! I've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I highly recommend their farm fresh poached eggs for breakfast, sonoma burger for lunch and the roasted polenta cake for dinner. In addition, to the great food they have great customer service. Mikey our server was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely come back and try their breakfast buffet!
(5)Stephanie M.
My pet peeve is restaurants that have fake reviews or reviews by insiders. That's the only way that this restaurant would only have five star reviews. We went on a Friday night and the place was empty. The waiter was very attentive to our needs at first. We had the bruschetta which was good and the Buratta salad which again was good but nothing special. My boyfriend had the short ribs and I had chicken for dinner. I didn't think either one was special. During the course of our meal we saw our waiter less and less. After we finished dessert our waiter completely disappeared. After a good 10 minutes we finally flagged down our waiter to get our check. It's obvious that this restaurant is trying to work out some kinks and with that in mind I will go back to see if there's been any changes.
(3)paul a.
I stayed at this hotel about 10 months ago and all I can say is Wow, what a change for the hotel. This restaurant is a huge improvement in decor and menu. Seriously, the room, indoor and outdoor, are such a quantum leap from before! The Bruchetta daily selections were terrific! The salmon with asparagus very good! The small plates will wait for tomorrow! I would agree with others that it is a bit pricey, but I think that is more drink related than food. Mains were in line with most restaurants serving these entrées. Wine, on the high side which is what boosted my bill. But as you might sense, that did not stop me. High marks for Barbianca!

Great customer service !!

Amazing! The bruschetta is so worth a try. The pasta with the short rib sauce was extremely good too. Highly recommend.
(5)Carly J.
Barbianca Local Kitchen is a beautiful and tasty place to eat and drink!! The best part about this Restaurant is that it is attached to a hotel! always a good idea to get a room if one too many bottles of wine are present at the table! I have been to many Italian restaurants before, but this one is different in that it is a more Northern Italian Cuisine, it's a bit lighter, and compliments the taste and feel of California where it resides. Its super open and airy which makes the restaurant feel fresh and clean. At each table and on the bar they have fresh potted herbs, which I find so cute! Really makes you feel like your eating in Tuscany. The best part about this place is the service. Nothing can ruin a good meal more than bad service, but luckily the staff here is so friendly and accommodating, it really adds to the experience. There is also a little power room, as they call it, with ping pong! its fun to have a drink and hang out with some friends in the room and have a go! Really unique place! DEFINITELY MAKE YOUR WAY HERE FOR A NIGHT OUT, AND MAYBE A STAY AT THE MdR!
(5)Zack S.
This place is a hidden gem, even though they just opened I want this to be a hot spot in a hotel that's always full. The food is amazing. Caprese, ravioli, polenta were all amazing. Julio the waiter was a great guy. Definetly worth a visit!
(5)Sarah G.
Delicious food and great service!
(5)Jeferson L.
Start with three bruschetta my favorite is the veal meatball a good chilled glass with one of the best beers i like Allagash white and a Organic chicken pizza!!! Can ask for nothing else to have a great experience at this place. Or I guess you could make it better by adding the devil's chocolate cake in the end yummmmyyyy!!!
(5)Matt L.
Unfortunately, I have to take Barbianca down a few notches. I went for dinner last night and while the decor and concept of the restaurant were great, the service could use some improvement. It was 7:30p on a Friday night -- the restaurant was moderately crowded, yet there appeared to only be two waiters, and one seemed to have the majority of the tables. Each group seemed to be annoyed by slow service, and appetizers, drinks and food all came out way too slow. Three people in my party ordered the Cali Mule. 2 of the 3 sent it back as it tasted like pure syrup. The drinks were also very small for the price. With a number of amazing cocktail joints in the neighborhood, Barbianca is really going to have to step up their bartending game. The food as other reviews have noted is very good. We had several items from the menu and almost everything tasted fantastic, was well seasoned and had a nice presentation (except for the minestrone soup which was incredibly bland). However, the short rib we ordered came out with multiple hairs in it -- this dish never should have made it out of the kitchen. The manager was quick to take it back, but when it finally arrived again, everybody else was already done with their meal. For a new restaurant trying to make a name for itself, it would have been nice for the entree, or at least a drink to be comped. Instead we were charged full price to eat our dinner at separate times. I will probably go back to Barbianca in a few months when they've hopefully gained a little more experience. I can see it being a nice, laid back, happy hour spot, but I doubt I return for a full dinner service.

I used to live at Stella across the way from Hotel MdR before their remodel, so when I heard there was a new restaurant going in, I was curious. Now that it's finally open, I can honestly say the food is far beyond anything I expected. Never mind it's in a "hotel", once the finishing touches from construction are complete, this will rival any of the other hot spots that have popped up in booming Marina del Rey. Ping pong table? Check. Large party dining? Check. Heck, even the barstools were surprisingly comfortable. My only gripe (and may well get fixed after they're truly complete) was that the harsh lobby lighting stole from the sexy ambient lighting around the bar. The music is right, the menu is choice, the staff are friendly; I have no doubt this place will sizzle with swank come summer. Looking forward to my return visit!
(5)Michael B.
If you're looking for a good breakfast, look no further. I tried the buffet my first time and loved it, especially after finding out most of it is USDA Organic! The breakfast panini is my favorite dish a la carte, the best balance to start my busy mornings, and the fact that they have starbucks verona roast is icing on the cake. And everyone should try the Sonoma Burger at lunch, if only for that house-made ketchup hehe. Service was admirable, and pretty relaxed. Beverage refills were brought before I even asked, and the timing the food came out was spot on. Go for it!
(5)Matt L.
Decent craft beer selection on tap. Had a pizza and a salad. Pizza was tasty but a little too salty. Salad was great, although the crouton was obnoxiously long. I'd eat here again, but probably only if I were staying at the hotel.
(3)Elodie H.
Strangely enough, it is not easy to find restaurants with outdoor seating in LA! I loved seating out on the patio overlooking the pool. We (group of 6) had dinner at Barbianca last Friday night. We had a drink at the bar first and then sat outside for dinner. Our server was really cool and efficient. We ordered a bunch of small plates to begin with and we each ordered a main course. I had the short ribs - delicious!! We shared some desserts and the choc cake is out of this world! Will def come back.
(5)Kim A.
Food is great! Service is awesome! Alex, the manager is such a great guy! Cliff was awesome too! Great low key atmosphere!
(5)Matt P.
The Organic Chicken pizza is AMAZING! It is light and delicious. If you are looking for a great environment to have a few cocktails and great food, this is the place. The colors and the lighting create an alluring mood. The patio area is the perfect setting to enjoy Barbianca poolside at the luxurious Hotel MdR. The hotel itself also has the friendliest staff I have ever met!
(5)K. S.
Great location- Service could be a little faster though.
(5)Rachel M.
Food is exceptionally fresh. It's in a hotel, so it's not crowded (aka empty). Ate here for lunch. The roasted chicken and pesto sandwich was amazing and surprisingly large. Our waiter (Mikey I think?) was very attentive and kind to my kids (both two and under) which is a big thing for my family when dining out. We are from Ohio, so we probably won't visit again. We were glad we stopped here, even though we didn't actually stay at the hotel. The environment is very classy, and the view of the pool will make you want to jump in. I gave it a 4 as a really reserve my 5-stars... that being said, it's a strong 4.
(4)H D.
More like 4 1/2 stars. I had the dine LA dinner which only offers one choice for this particular menu-the main course being Lamb shank. For those who enjoy lamb shank, this is great. A large and generous serving with excellent asparagus risotto. There are other things on the menu as well, but it has a somewhat more limited menu than most as it is in a hotel. Judging from the quality of the meal and the other favorable reviews, it doesn't sound like you can go wrong here. With the lamb shank comes a Caprese salad and a Lemon and toasted almond butter cake with vanilla ice cream. Highly recommended.

The food here is fabulous! It's Italian food with a light, Californian touch. We ordered the polenta and bruschetta for appetizers. The polenta has mushrooms on top and is very savory. I highly recommend the tuna bruschetta. I had the braised short ribs which is full of flavor, perfectly cooked and one of the best dishes I've tasted in a long time. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate dipped butter cookies and lemon pound cake which are both excellent. The cookies came with a delicious house-made jam and organic milk. Yum! This is a great place for cocktails at the bar or drinking beer while playing ping pong. The ambiance has a very cool, hip vibe and indoor/outdoor seating. I really like the pots of herbs that are on the tables. The restaurant has these sliding doors that completely open up the entire wall so even if you're inside, you still get the feeling of outdoors. This restaurant is located inside Hotel MdR and well worth the find.

well thought out menu, comfortable décor...BUT SLOW and SLOWER...no clue how to get ready for a Sat eve. crowd.. from beverage service to food delivery ..painful..Had to get up and leave. Hope they can figure it out...

My friend and I had a very nice experience here and the service was very good. We wanted to split a salad and they actually split it in the kitchen for us. Though we both had the pasta with vodka sauce (which was very good), the menu had a lot of great items to choose from...And to go with our dinner they served a delicious cheese bread with pesto dipping sauce.

First time visiting since they remodeled and changed ownership to the Double tree hilton. This place is fabulous from the ambience to the food to the whole remodel. The outside of the hotel is nothing special but the inside is so chic and lavish. My family and I sat at a table that was partially indoor/outdoor. It was perfect weather. We all enjoyed our food and our friendly waiter. I got the pesto shrimp pasta. It was amazing so flavorful. My sister and my mom got the salmon which they also enjoyed and my stepdad got the aritchoke ravioli. We also ordered the fritto misto, sea salt fries and caprese salad to share and everything was so fresh and delicious. It doesn't get any better than that aside from 20% off the entire bill when you sign in yelp on your smartphone. We will definitely be returning. They also have a really nice bar area which my dad and stepmom have tried and they absolutely love it. Even the chairs were comfortable.

I work in the Marina area, so I am loving all of the new restaurant options that keep popping up. Barbianca is the lastest additon, and it is one of my favorites!! I have eaten there a few times now- once for lunch, then again for dinner when my Grandparents were in town, since I enjoyed my lunch so much! All I can say is, WOW! The flavor from every dish has been phenomenol, and the service is spot-on. I HIGHLY reccomend sampling the bruschettas, the tuna being my favorite thus far. They have a delicious caprese salad, and I must say, the burger is one of the best I have ever had. It has such a unique flavor with the addition of goat cheese, kale and balsamic onions, perfected with the addition of sea salt fries and house made ketchup. For our dinner, I tried the steak, which was served at a perfect medium-rare, as requested, and washed down with a super-yummy peach belini. My grandparents were also quite pleased, and highly reccomended both the short rib bolognese and the spaghetti with house made marinara. We got to sit outside near the pool, which was so nice! It made for a very lovely evening, with perfect ambiance. I will definitely be bringing my hustand back for date night!

Went there on a Thursday night at 7 pm. Given the 4.5 star rating I thought the place would be packed but it was nearly empty. Ordered the 3 bruschettas as an appetizer and a salad to share. They brought out the salad first, which I didn't expect since appetizers usually come out first, but they were thoughtful to split it in two plates which we appreciated. A while later the bruschettas came out. All three pieces of bread were very small and the breads were burnt. We didn't want to send the plate back since the toppings seemed fine so we asked for replacement bread. Anticipating nice hot pieces we were very disappointed. The replacement pieces were not burnt but they were cold. Considering we only asked for new bread and not to replace all three bruschettas this was very disappointing. Fortunately the dinner ended on a high note. The salmon was fantastic. It was cooked perfectly and topped with raisins and almonds. I would definitely order that again, if I come back. All in all, the service was good, the ambience was nice and quiet -- a good place for a first date -- but the food was hit and miss. Barbianca has potential but does not warrant 4.5 stars currently showing in Yelp, in my opinion.

Check in through your Yelp App, and you get 20% off your bill! I stumbled here for an early breakfast! This review is for the breakfast buffet only. This restaurant is located inside the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel. I suggest to park for free in the lot adjacent, or, you can park within the Hilton Hotel grounds and the restaurant will validate for 2 hours free. The breakfast buffet is served daily from 6am -11am. They have the standard, cereals, milk, yogurt, muffins, pastries, but what makes this one special are the added touches. Bagels with lox, capers, onions, a variety of fresh fruit. and hard boiled eggs. There is also a hot section of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, roasted potatoes. Then there is a fresh juice bar: orange, cranberry, grapefruit. Coffee is brought to your table in a thermos. We asked to replace ours after the coffee got cold. The waiter also offered to make fresh eggs for us, so we asked for eggs over easy. My only complaint? The salt shaker was overly filled, so I screwed off the lid, which spilled a teaspoon of salt on the table. I saw the same thing happen to the guest who also couldn't get salt out of the shaker, sitting at the next table. I am definitely going to return to this wonderful place! All this is $17.00. $I also asked about their Happy Hour. Daily 4-6pm, Half price on all pizzas, Frito Misto and Bruchettas $5 house wines : red and white $5 draft beers $10 on cocktails on their menu

The staff here is really what makes Barbianca a great place to go for happy hour or dinner. Patrick leads a great team of knowledgable bartenders like Jason; and Chef Larry makes an amazing Polenta Cake! The Polenta is very rich in truffle oil, but my favorite is their heirloom tomato caprese salad. The service is always above and beyond and they make for an enjoyable experience every time. Also, they have a ping pong table room which is so much fun for grabbing a drink and playing a few games, especially on a quiet week night.

This was a nice place to come for a light meal/snack. The small plates are really appetizers. They are mostly euro inspired salads. It's great if you are on restrictions from protein or gluten. The tables are set up outside and the location is awesome by the beach, although it's not beach side, but the air is very fresh. There is a nice ambiance and the wait staff were friendly, but not pretentious. Even though they were friendly, they did take a bit long, which was a shame since many of us ordered the bottomless mimosas. Also, I purchased mimosas while waiting for our party and the bartender could have mentioned the bottomless in advance, but chose not to... so that was a little frustrating.

I came here with two friends and our experience started out much better, but kind of went downhill. Let me start by saying that this place has great atmosphere. It was a nice day, so we sat out on the patio overlooking the pool and fire pits. The decor was very clean and open. I have to say what really disappointed us was the service. The hostess was very nice and greeted us right away, but our waiter really lacked in service. He seemed to feel it was more important to carry on discussions with fellow co-workers instead of taking care of his only table. We had to keep requesting water, we didn't have plates, we said we wanted to order our entrees and he walked away, I asked for a spoon specifically for pasta and he brought me a teaspoon. Every time we needed something, we had to search for him and he was literally in some corner chatting away. Food was kind of hit and miss. We loved our appetizers, but our entrees could have been better. Everything we ordered had good flavors, but there were texture problems. -roasted polenta cake 5: house-made crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggiano, truffle sauce, chives (Wonderful, a must get!) -valley caprese salad 5: heirloom tomatoes, basil, fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinaigrette (Super yummy and fresh! Probably the best caprese I've had.) -spaghetti 4: short rib bolognese sauce, herb ricotta, and parmigiano-reggiano. (Tasty, but the small pieces of short rib were tough, they might as well just used classic ground beef.) -pappardelle 3: roasted vegetables, spinach, artichokes, tomato, fresh herbs, fava bean pesto, herb ricotta, evoo (Okay.) -braised lamb osso buco 2: red wine, roasted vegetables, and yukon mashed potatoes. (Osso buco should fall off the bone, this one was very tough.) -house-made amaretto cheesecake 2: (It had okay flavor, but bad texture. I like my cheesecake light, fluffy, and creamy. This one was super dense.) -panna cotta 5: (Nothing new about panna cotta, but theirs was really good. The cream had a great texture and a yummy honey flavor. The blueberry and strawberry compote was delicious.) -coffee: (It was served in paper Starbucks cups and they put the creamer in for you. I don't understand why they wouldn't serve it in standard cups and saucers and let you pour your own cream. The amount of cream you use seems like a very personal preference. It all felt very cheap.) Overall, I might give the service one last shot and come back for summer drinks and appetizers on the patio. Hopefully things improve.

My sister chose this restaurant for her birthday dinner. We started with flat bread and truffle mushroom polenta. I really recommend them both. They had a lot of flavor. For my main course I got the spaghetti bolognese. It was good though I added some crushed peppers for spice. Definitely try the pear almond tart. We will definitely go again!

A surprisingly open, modern, chic place within the MDR hotel. Opens up to a patio with hanging lights, overlooking a fire pit and pool. Also has a glass encased "private" room. I can definitely see intimate/not so intimate parties and happy hours. Came with a group of girls, and the ambiance was PERFECT for chatting and hanging out. Our meal was OK - nothing spectacular, but honestly I would come back for the atmosphere and convenience. FYI: their parking system is a litlte wacky - supposed to be free in the lot with validation, but the machine tried to charge me $6. When I pressed the help button, the gate just opened. My friends just parked in a nearby lot.

This is my second time at Barbianca and it seems to be a consistent experience. The waiters are extremely friendly (and usually good looking) with very good food. They recently changed the menu which threw me off on what I was going to order but we were pleasantly surprised with the new options. I started with a Chianti wine and 2 appetizers: The roasted polenta cake- house-made crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggiano, truffle sauce & chives & The Pizzetta- fennel sausage, artisanal pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, san marzano tomato sauce My brother and I split the braised lamb osso buco- red wine, roasted vegetables, yukon mashed potatoes which was very good and the pork tenderloin piccata- shallots, garlic, capers, white wine, lemon, flat leaf parsley which I thought was a bit better. They surprised me with birthday dessert which was so sweet of them and they were all very good and we had the house-made amaretto cheesecake, tiramisu, panna cotta and the caramelized pear tart. The decor is more swanky and was definitely recently renovated. They have heat lamps and fire & ice pits outside which makes sitting out there lovely. It also has a full bar and inside seating and since it's a hotel restaurant, it's fairly quiet and always easy to get a table.

+ Happy hour menu for wine + beer + food + Great location for a meet-up with resort-style pool view + Parking on-site or nearby shopping village It's rare that I am in MDR, but a girl friend was in town and an impromptu GNO (GirlsNightOut) was going down.

Wow! This place is outstanding. I was very lucky to be here to tonight for an elite event. The food was first class. They outstanding dishes from salads to meat. I was lucky to have the outstanding steak that was done perfect flavoring. A lot of people had the fish that was outstanding The service is first class from the minute you walk to the minute you leave. If you like course meals you are in a treat. Make sure you leave room for desert. They have great bar area to watch sporting events or just to have a great glass of wine. If you are a picky wine taster you will love the wine menu. If you are ordering white or red you will love the wine selections. The location is the MDR Hotel in the heart of beautiful City of Marina Del Rey. This place has outstanding vibe. If you are coming with friends or just on a date you will yourself from A to Z. Hands down one of the coolest restaurants in town. i will be coming back here a lot more. Service 10+ Food 10+ Wines 10+ Quality 10+

This is an under appreciated spot on the west side! Great ambiance for both groups and dates! While i dont recommend the bruschettas (bread is hard as rock but the server insisted that the chef likes it prepared in this "rustic" way), the rest of the items we ordered were great. When we complained about the bread the server was very accommodating and gave us a soft and warm cheesy bread on the house. The beet salad (see photo) was awesome. Parking is free for the first three hours! The restaurant is in hotel MDR which is in the back behind the Stella complex.

Was lucky enough to be invited here for a Yelp event... Amazing night with great people Service is 10+ Environment 8 Food 7.5 = solid 4 star review What I ate: Burrata with heirloom tomatoes- really tasty! Granted this was my first time eating burrata, but if you like mozzarella cheese and fresh tomatoes, you can't go wrong. It's like a fancier caprese, basically. Polenta cake with mushrooms and truffle sauce- WOW. Best dish of the night. The polenta was creamy and was perfectly paired by the mushrooms. A must! Halibut with roasted vegetable - wimp womp, least favorite. Halibut was dry. The crunch on top and the side of vegetables were delicious though! 35 day aged sirloin Steak- a better choice than the halibut. Could have used a little more seasoning though! Brownie with pistachio ice cream and red wine fudge-surprisingly good mix of everything! My only comment was the brownie is tasty but was tough to cut into and eat. Service was the best part about this place, you really feel like you're getting A list treatment here. Very hospitable, and we all got to meet the chef, which was pretty dang cool. Beautiful ambiance for a fancy schmancy night. Love the spacious high ceilings and open, "airy" feel- the restaurant looks out to the pool! Hinty Hinty for romantics. Of course plenty of flat screens for the avid sports watchers. A hidden gem inside a hotel! Thank you for inviting us here :)

Barbianca is a very nice restaurant located inside of the MDR hotel in Marina Del Rey. From the outside the hotel does not look very nice at all, but once you step inside you feel like you're in a posh hotel in Beverly Hills. The restaurant is located to the right of the entrance. Barbianca looks very clean and modern. It's a great place to meet up with some friends for some drinks and small plates. // PARKING // They offer self parking or valet. Self parking is free up to 3 hours and $5 minimum after that. // SERVICE // The service here was great. They constantly came to our table to clear plates and refill drinks. // FOOD // Daily bruschetta board: 3 for $9 or 5 for $14. We decided to get the 5 for $14 and order one of each except for the goat cheese and tomato bruschetta. The five different ones that we ordered were: tuna salad, braised artichokes, tomatoes, broccoli rabe, and the veal meatball. Everything was good, but nothing really made a huge impression on me. 3.5/5 Artisan cheese plate: A good selection of 4 different cheese served with a crostini, almonds, dried apricots and fig cake. The cheeses were all pretty good and the fig cake was surprisingly tasty. $9 3.5/5 Roasted polenta cake: Crisp polenta, foraged mushrooms, parmigiano-reggaino, truffle sauce, and chives. This was probably the best dish of the night. The polenta was on the bland side, but it was perfect once you got a bite of it with some mushrooms! $9 4/5 Artichoke ravioli: California artichokes, mozzarella, herb ricotta, cured olives and a light marinara sauce. I thought this dish was pretty good, but it could have used a little more flavor. $18 3.5/5 Sea salt herb fries: Fries are just always a good choice to snack on. $5 4/5 Overall, I was pretty impressed with Barbianca. I thought the atmosphere, food and service were all impressive. The total for 3 people was $150 including wine and beer. If you're in the area and are in need of a drink and relaxed night with some friends than I would recommend checking Barbianca out.

What a nice addition to the Marina! I feel like this place is a diamond in the rough. We enjoyed some starters including the cheese plate which provided quite a generous portion. The bruschetta board is also a nice variety. I especially liked the artichoke bruschetta. For our entrees the roasted polenta cake was a real highlight and went very quickly- a must order in my opinion. The wine selection is decent but differs from their online menu which I was a bit disappointed about since they said they had my favorite wine online but that was not the case in person. No worries though because they had plenty of other yummy options. Very cool atmosphere and the patio is well done. Although it is usually pretty empty except for some hotel guests. I'm hoping more people find this place so it sticks around!

I had the opportunity to dine here at my very first Yelp Elite event. The theme--Northern Italian meets California--makes for some interesting dish combinations, and the quick answer is that I recommend coming here, especially if staying at the MdR Hotel. We started off in the lounge area munching on the Artisan Cheese and California Olive small plates. Each of the cheeses were top class and highly pungent, going well with the accompanying dried cranberries and apricots. The olives are house-marinated in orange rind, rosemary, chili oil, a delightfully addicting combination that boded well for the rest of the meal. I recommend both of these dishes as starters for the table. We next moved to the main seating area. Lighting was softly dimmed, producing a comfortably romantic setting (but tragically ruining any chance I had of taking good pictures of all the food that came after.) Since this was a Yelp event, we had the luxury of having lead chef Larry explain each dish as it was served. Note that this was a wine pairing event, but I do not drink alcohol and therefore didn't participate in the wine pours. The first dish served was the Valley Caprese Salad, which, for my meal, included burrata cheese (instead of the mozzarella listed on the menu) with organic heirloom tomatoes, Abequina extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. The cheese was incredibly smooth and creamy. Although I don't eat tomatoes, the chef's description made them sound so delicious that it was the first time in recent memory I WISHED I could eat tomatoes--so if you like them, I suggest you have at this dish. There were small chunks of salt sprinkled over the cheese that I could have done without, but I assume this would have been just right if you actually eat tomatoes. Next came the Roasted Stone Ground Polenta Cake, topped with foraged mushrooms, parmesan-reggiano, and truffle sauce. This was easily the BEST dish of the night. The polenta had a nice, grainy texture while still being perfectly moist, and was further complemented by the cheeses and truffle sauce. But more noteworthy was the foraged mushrooms. I am not a huge mushroom fan. I can eat them, but I wouldn't say I LIKE them. These mushrooms, however, were without a doubt the freshest I've had, and were an excellent pairing with the moistened polenta. It was a fairly large square, but I had no qualms with licking my plate clean, despite there being TWO more courses to follow. This savory cake is on the standard menu, and I definitely recommend building it into your meal--especially if you actually like mushrooms. (In case you're wondering, "foraged", the chef explained, means the chef specifies a certain variety and amount of mushrooms; assistants then gather as much of the specified variety as they can, supplementing the remaining quota with whatever similar varieties can be freshly found.) I ordered Halibut for my main course. The chef explained that the fish had been caught the previous night at Santa Barbara, and brought down to the hotel and prepared that morning. It was served as a small square over vegetables and potatoes, and was fresh enough to not need much seasoning, without the slightest bit of fishiness. Although this Halibut is not on the standard menu, I think it serves as a strong demonstration of their dedication to freshness. If you like strong flavors, you might prefer a meat dish for your main course. Dessert was a Tcho chocolate brownie, with crushed Oreos mixed in, and topped with pistachio gelato, and red wine-flavored caramel and whipped cream. Overall, this was a satisfying dish. However, I am a huge fan of Tcho chocolate, and I felt the Oreos slightly detracted from it, adding more of a sugary sweetness to the rich depth of Tcho chocolate. I found myself enjoying the toppings more than the actual brownie. Though this is not on the standard menu, they do have a "Lemon and Toasted Almond Butter Cake", which similarly uses red wine syrup, and would be my first choice for dessert. Hotel restaurants are notorious for serving sub-par food at inflated prices, but I found Baribanca Local Kitchen to be a defiant exception. Thanks to Yelp for opening my eyes to a great restaurant I otherwise would have overlooked. *Even if you're not a guest at the hotel, use of their parking lot is free for the first 3 hours.

It was a little slow for a Friday night. Service was OK. It was kinda like that when it is slow everyone moves slower thing. The menu is somewhat limited however the food was good. I ordered the snapper that was the special. It was very tasty. Seemed a little pricey for what we had though.
(3)Jeanette K.
Super solid joint in Marina Del Rey (located at Hotel MDR). Great for date, groups, or to have a drink watching the game. The chef makes it a point to only buy local and organic (the fish and beef are from Colorado, however) HIGHLIGHTS: - Burrata with HANDPICKED heirloom tomatoes. That cheese was simply amazing. I have never quite tasted burrata this good. Yes, it was like that. - Polenta cake with a variety mushrooms and truffle sauce. This was super special. Must get! As a main dish, I ordered the halibut but it was a bit dry and lacking in flavor. And as for dessert (brownie with ice cream) I think I got some weird piece that was microwaved (not kidding). It was so hard I couldn't really cut into it. The girl sitting next to me had me taste hers and mine was definitely different. It was more like a candy bar. It was very strange. Service was excellent. Parking is easy. Totally worth checking out!!!
(4)Michael K.
Came here after reading the reviews, but we did not have the same experience. Service was really bad, it took forever to get everything from drinks at the bar to when we sat down and finally received our food. We piled up our dishes on the wobbly table for the server to take and I had to find another server to get our check. It wasn't even super busy for Friday night. The food itself was average and the ambiance was too sheik for its own good. Going out to eat can be a gamble; I was hoping for something much better.
(2)Charles C.
This was great fun for my family and I. Not only was the food wonderful but we got to play ping pong after our dinner. The service was superb. Our waiter Erick waited on us like we were King and Queen which we are!0! I can wait to go back here!! Thank you for a great Easter Diner!!
(4)Nicolai D.
We stayed at the MDR hotel, and had brunch here. Had a pizza with prusciutto and the tomato and mozarella salad (valley caprese). Really delicate, crusty pizza, sweet tomatoes and delicious mozarella.
(4)Maryam R.
Very nice interior design. The kale and spinach salad was huge but I'm not blown away with the dressing ( very healthy though). Overall very pleasant experience. I'll be back to try other choices on the menu.
(4)Regina P.
I tried this restaurant because it had 4 stars on yelp. The ambiance and restaurant was relaxing and the server was nice/attentive. However, the food was average at best. I had the sausage and pepperoni pizza. The texture of the mozzarella was runny and the crust tasted like the crust of the lean cuisine pizza. I'm okay with lean cuisine pizza because I know what to expect. I just don't expect to go to a restaurant and pay over 10 bucks for lean cuisine. My point is the pizza did not taste like it was cooked with fresh ingredients. Rather it was taken out of a freezer and heated fresh. I would go back for drinks but likely skip on the food which was very disappointing.

Came here with the family for Easter Dinner the hotel & restaurant was beauitful. The outdoor patio over looking a firepit and pool was beath taking alone with or food. If your looking for a little get away but don't wanted to go far this is the perfect place. A must check it out!?.
(4)Anh T.
Had breakfast here and my dish was 15 dollars and was meh. The service was slow and the food came out even slower. It was a fair amount of food but 15 is too much for the quality. This place also had like, 12 dollar beers. do yourself a favor and go to pavilion next door and live it up on your patio!
(2)Regan W.
This place is a hidden gem. Food is authentic, well crafted and seasonal. Great service and lovely environment. It's a quieter place which is nice for a group (everyone can hear each other). If you are a local, come by. Theo is the executive chef and he's out on the floor from time to time to see how things are running. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Meredith W.
Let's start off by saying the food was good. We had the cheese plate which had a nice variety of cheeses. Then we had the green salad and the wedge, both were tasty. Finished with the margarita pizza. It was small but fresh. Now the downside. It was Valentine's Day and they must of had half the staff call off because service was awful. It took a good 15 min before anyone approached us. We immediately ordered and it took another 20 min to get our drinks. It didn't really improve by the time we left even tho the place pretty much cleared out. I'd like to give this place another shot, hoping we caught them on an off night. They did comp part of our tab, which helped the rough experience.
